The largest city in the Southern state of Texas and the fourth largest city in the United States, Houston offers a great variety of attractions for visitors. A multicultural city, Houston is a metropolitan, but diverse center. Visitors to the city can enjoy a range of activities from beaches to museums, amusement parks to arts and cultural activities, exciting outdoor activities and games to theaters. Space Center

The Space Center is the number one tourist attraction in Houston. For anyone interested in space or space travel, young or old, the Space Center is a must. There are many interactive displays, as well as a moon rock for viewing. Visitors to the center can watch astronauts train for a space walk, visit a life size shuttle replica with flight deck, take tours around the center or visit the space shuttle simulator. Kids may enjoy the scary cave full of its creepy monsters in the "That's so Weird" exhibition.

Museum District

Within a 1.5 mile radius of Herman Park, visitors to the city can find a large collection of museums, cultural centers and galleries. Among these attractions are the Museum of Fine Arts, including the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. You will also find in this area the Holocaust Museum, the John P. McGovern Health Museum, the Lawndale Arts Center and the Houston Center for Photography. Many thousands of pieces of art can be viewed within this district and it is the perfect place to spend a day if you are looking for a bit of culture.

Houston Zoo

The Houston is centrally located and conveniently found in the Museum District. It boasts animals from all over the world and here you can animals big and small. There are 900 species and around 4,500 animals to be seen including koalas, tigers, meerkats, vampire bats and many more. Among the attractions at the zoo, visitors can enjoy the Wildlife Carousel and the Natural Encounters exhibit that allows you to get up nice and close to the animals. Old Town Spring

Old Town Spring is located in North Houston. It is designed to replicate how America looked in the early1900s. It contains more than 150 Victorian-style antique shops, museums, and art galleries, as well as restaurants, an RV resorts and two hotels. To rest you feet after wandering through the many shops, you can enjoy a live music performance in none other than the Jailhouse Saloon. Make sure not to miss the gunshot holes on the old bank building from a robbery by Bonnie and Clyde.

Downtown Aquarium

The relatively new downtown aquarium is impressive enough for both adults and children to enjoy. It has a range of attractions including the Louisiana Swamp, the Amazon River and a shipwreck. You can enjoy the experience of a train ride through a tunnel in the shark tank, a Ferris wheel and the White Tigers of the Maharaja's Temple exhibition. If you are brave, you can even pet a stingray. There are a wide variety of underwater species to view in the huge half-million gallon center.
